How We Rate Operators
Transparent criteria, no pay-for-placement, updated periodically.
Every operator on UK Reel Notary receives a score out of 10. That score is a weighted composite of the criteria below. We assess each area independently, then combine them into the headline figure. Operators cannot pay for a higher score or a better position.
1. Game Studios & Library Breadth
WEIGHT: 30%
The range and quality of game studios an operator works with is our primary criterion. We look at how many studios are integrated, whether they include standout developers like NetEnt, Pragmatic Play, Thunderkick, Evolution, Red Tiger, and Play'n GO, and whether the total catalogue gives players genuine variety or just volume. An operator stocking 2,000 generic titles scores lower than one with 800 curated games from respected studios.
2. Live Casino Quality
WEIGHT: 20%
We assess which live casino provider is used (Evolution, Pragmatic Live, Playtech Live, etc.), the number of active tables, available variants (blackjack, roulette, baccarat, game shows), and whether UK-specific tables or dedicated branded environments are offered. A basic set of standard tables scores lower than a site with exclusive or early-access titles.
3. Mobile Experience
WEIGHT: 20%
Most UK players access casinos on mobile, so this matters. We test the mobile browser experience on iOS and Android — page load speed, navigation clarity, game-launch reliability, and whether a native app adds value over the web version. A site that loads in under three seconds and offers a usable lobby without horizontal scrolling scores well here.
4. Overall Usability
WEIGHT: 15%
This covers account creation friction, how clearly bonus terms are presented, whether the lobby is searchable and filterable, and general site reliability. We also note whether customer support is accessible (live chat hours, response quality) and whether responsible gambling tools are easy to find and use.
5. UKGC Licence & Trust
WEIGHT: 15%
A current UKGC licence is a prerequisite for inclusion — without it, the operator is not listed at all. Within this criterion, we check the licence history (any regulatory actions, fines, or suspended conditions), whether GAMSTOP is properly integrated, and whether the operator has a track record of prompt complaint resolution through ADR providers.
What we do not assess
We deliberately exclude payment methods, deposit/withdrawal speeds, and specific payout percentages from our scoring. These change frequently, vary by player location within the UK, and are better verified directly with the operator. Our focus stays on the gaming experience itself.
How often we update
We review each listed operator at least quarterly. If a significant change happens (new studio partnership, licence action, platform overhaul), we update sooner. The "last updated" date on the homepage reflects the most recent review cycle.
